The new facility has the opportunity to increase sports and community events year-round and serve as a central motivating force in expanding current youth/adult sporting activities, nonprofit and community-wide events through all four seasons. Currently, there is no public, covered structure with the capacity as this new, multi-use facility.

The project will satisfy a number of growing needs for the community, including:

  • Additional ice time during high season due to increasing hockey, figure skating, and curling program numbers.
  • Increasing adult hockey program participation and revenue-generating programs such as the Wranglers Junior Hockey Team.
  • More time for public skate and bumper cars.
  • Allows for hosting of additional tournaments and training camps that require as a minimum of two sheets of ice (and generators of bed nights and sales tax for the city!).

Community benefits will include:

  • Access to a covered facility available to youth soccer, lacrosse and baseball organizations that need facilities during unpredictable spring and fall seasons.
  • A new covered facility will also include an un-programmed area for dryland training activities for various youth athletic organizations.
  • Allowing the use of the facility to host small- to large-scale events in support of public, private and nonprofit initiatives.
